In this article I'm going to share 3 tips that you should consider when creating a digital product. The 3 key elements of product creation I'm going to explain are: purpose, presentation and preparation. I will explain why they are important and tell you what you need to do so that you create a product that will attract the right attention.
1. Purpose
It is critical that you are clear about the purpose of your product because if you are not clear then you will not be sending a clear message to your potential market and may not get the results you hoped for. So what are the most common purposes for information products? You may want to use your product as a giveaway to encourage visitors to sign up to your email list. You may, of course, want to sell your product however you also need to think about whether that is your only goal or whether you want that to be a stepping stone to investing in more detailed and lengthy products or services. You may want to create a product that will help to build your standing and credibility within your niche or field. It's best to stick to one main purpose so that you make it easy for your potential or actual customers to take the action you desire and not get stuck because there are too many options.
2. Presentation
Once you are clear on your purpose the next main decision is how to present your information. In other words, in what format are you going to deliver your message: ebook, audio and video being the three main options. So how do you choose which to use? First consider the content you want to deliver as this may dictate which format you need to use. Then think about your market and what they would prefer. Also consider what is going to be easiest and cheapest for you to produce and distribute. Finally think about the marketing strategies you intend to employ as this might also direct your choice.
3. Preparation
Once you're clear about your purpose and the media format you are going to use, it's now time to prepare for creating your ebook, audio or video. To do this organise your content into the form of brief notes. Start by breaking your content down into 6 - 10 subtopics and then bullet point the key aspects you intend to cover for each of these subtopics. You will find it much easier now to actually create your product.
