In this article I'm going to explain why you should create your own products rather than selling other people's items as an affiliate. I'm talking about digital products that you sell via the internet rather than physical products. This includes ebooks which are becoming increasingly popular with the advent of devices like Amazon's Kindle. Other products you can create and sell online are audios and videos. If you've never tried to create your own product before it may seem a daunting prospect but it needn't be a difficult or lengthy process if you know how.
The most obvious reason for creating your own products to market is that you get to keep 100% of the sale price. However I don't want to be misleading because you will have to advertise and market your product yourself and that could mean that your costs increase depending on what type of marketing you choose. If you are starting out and have time but not much money then there are a range of methods that you can use that don't cost you anything other than your time such as article or social media marketing.
Another reason for producing your own products is that when you are an affiliate you are not the only person promoting that item and so have increased competition and may have to work harder to attract potential buyers. Now to be fair there are some advantages to being an affiliate. You haven't had to create the product or the sales materials. You can choose an item that is already selling well so that you don't have the worry of whether or not people will be interested enough to buy it. However as I've said earlier creating your own products isn't as hard as you might imagine and if you get to know your market and create enough products it won't matter if there are a few duds in the pack.
The most important reason for creating and marketing your own products in my eyes is that you are more likely to attract loyal followers that will buy from you again and again. Your customers will get to know you, to trust you and to respect and desire your advice and support as you deliver great value content in your products. Your voice, your personality will come through and that's important in helping your customer to really connect with you and to believe that you get them and their challenges. So for this reason alone I strongly advocate that you create your own products.
