The 3 key elements of product creation I'm going to explain are: purpose, presentation and preparation. 1. Purpose

It is critical that you are clear about the purpose of your product because if you are not clear then you will not be sending a clear message to your potential market and may not get the results you hoped for. So what are the most common purposes for information products? You may want to use your product as a giveaway to encourage visitors to sign up to your email list. You may, of course, want to sell your product however you also need to think about whether that is your only goal or whether you want that to be a stepping stone to investing in more detailed and lengthy products or services. You may want to create a product that will help to build your standing and credibility within your niche or field. It's best to stick to one main purpose so that you make it easy for your potential or actual customers to take the action you desire and not get stuck because there are too many options.

2. Presentation

Once you are clear on your purpose the next main decision is how to present your information. Another free recording program is called Audacity which you can find easily with a Google search.

As I mentioned earlier audios have a higher perceived value than ebooks. Another advantage over ebooks and videos is that audios can be listened to a wider range of situations so that your customers can make use of otherwise redundant time like driving to work to absorb your material. Another feature that your customers will appreciate is that audios stream faster on the internet than videos so there's no frustration because the recording has stopped to buffer. That's assuming they can access the video at all as it requires work or money to make sure they can be played on all the different browsers.

Ebooks and videos have their place and are useful and it's worth knowing the best way to create them. However audios really are easy and fast to create.

Educational psychologists say that people learn in a variety of different ways: some by reading, some by listening, some by watching, and others by doing. If you have an audio recording in addition to the eBook itself, then that gives the product more value. Add $60.

3. Make it into a video.

This requires greater skill and as a result the value of it goes up quite a bit. The easiest and most effective way is to recording yourself talking while showing some of the information on PowerPoint or a similar program. A "talking head" is much more difficult to do and depends not only on your technical skill, but also on good looks. If you are incredibly handsome or could stop traffic because you're so beautiful, then having your face on camera for much of the time might be a good option. Add $100-200.

4. Create a membership site

This suggestion moves the degree of difficulty up a notch. Now you're not only making the eBook more valuable, you're also committing yourself to new training and/or support that occurs at least once per month beyond the initial product. Add $97 per month.

How And Why To Release Your Information Products Into Multiple Formats

You may have seen other information marketers selling ebooks, audios, videos, and home study courses and you might be wondering what format should you release your information product in.

The answer is, all of the above, because different people have different ways of learning, whether it's video for quick learning or a report for reference or an audio for mobile learning.

Making a video is the easiest way to create a product. If you're not comfortable getting your video transcribed, then write the report using your presentation as an outline.

Videos are great for quick learning, somebody can watch a 20 minute video and pick up a whole new skill, but they might need the report to repeat that skill, to go back and use this reference guide over and over again. It's completely okay if you are selling a video online to get the video transcribed and include it, not as a separate product, but include it as part of the package.

And a very easy bonus for you to make as part of an info-product package is to create an audio file. Most video software, including Camtasia, will allow you to save your video recording as an mp3 audio. So someone can listen to your information in their car or on their phone.

Even if you don't have a video, you can simply pick up a sound-recording tool such as GoldWave or Audacity and dictate your report, read your report out loud, record it, now you have an audio.

Those are the different formats you should release your information product in. A video for quick learning, a report for reference, and an audio for mobile listening.

In this article I want to share with you five easy steps to creating your first information product. It's a method that I used to write a 99,000 word hardback book, and the same one I use now to create products for my online business.

If you experience any anxiety at all at the thought of creating your first information product, then you can imagine how I felt when I was given a contract to write a hardback book for publication. I had made some presentations about a tiny bit of the material that was eventually included, but at the beginning I had very little to start with.

If that's your situation, then I have some encouraging news for you: Creating your first information product is not as hard as it sounds. Here are the five easy steps that I follow.

1. Identify the purpose.

Before you write your first word, you need to have a clear idea why you're creating this particular product. It's not enough to say that you're doing it so that you'll have something to sell.

You need to think about who will use the information that you're going to share, and then write for them.

2. Jot down your thoughts.

I find this step especially to be rather a lot of fun. There's no structure. You just write down anything and everything that you think might be relevant to it.

I usually keep a folder for future products, and every time I think of something that I think would be appropriate for it, I write a little note and put it in that folder. Then when it's time to work on that product, all the information that I've gathered in the previous days and weeks is already there, waiting for me.

3. Identify the themes.

Remember that there's no structure yet. In this step, all you have to do is look at each sentence or section in your notes and then write in the margin one or two words that describe the subject. Do this for all of the information that you have collected.

4. Organize the themes into a loose outline.

This is your first attempt to make an sort of structure out of your notes. There are no rules, so arrange and rearrange the subjects how ever you want.

5. Connect the dots.

Move your text under the respective themes, and then connect your ideas together.

What Is the Fastest Method for Creating Information Products?

Day One - Write the outline. Record notes under each section of the outline, so you can recall the information quickly. If you're proficient in PowerPoint, use this to make your outline. Go purchase a domain name and hosting. I recommend using GoDaddy. If your product title is short, then use this as your domain name. If the name is too long or already taken, choose a keyword as your domain name.

Day Two - Using recording software on your computer and your outline, record the information. I recommend using free audio software such as Audacity to make this even easier. If you made your outline in PowerPoint, use the recording feature to create a slideshow video. Save your audio recording in mp3 format or in mp4 format if you used PowerPoint. Upload your mp3 or mp4 to the hosting account you purchased on day one. Copy and paste the link to your product in a text file for quick reference.

Day Three - Create the components necessary to sell your product. Keep this part very simple! I recommend using software to make your sales page or create a WordPress blog and use a sales letter theme. Next, setup a download page which includes a link to your product, a short thank you note and contact information. Finally, setup your payment processor. PayPal, in my opinion is the easiest. Paste your payment button code on your sales letter.

That's it. Now you just need to drive traffic to your offer. Blocking out three days to accomplish this is so important. It's a measurable, motivating goal. Take action today.

The Top Two Mistakes of First-Time Information Product Developers

So you're ready to pursue passive income, the type of money that comes in while you are sleeping, working on other things or out having fun. I applaud your initiative! Just make sure you don't fall victim to the top two pitfalls I observe in action again and again.

The biggest mistake I see others making is starting off too big. Many think the smart move is starting out with a book, or something equally ambitious. They outline and go to work on their book or complicated home-study course that would have to take years to finish, given their overall plan.

One product developer, for example, asked to interview me as one of 12 experts in a big home-study course and promised to send me the whole package when it was done. Every couple of months I would email her to ask if she could please send me a copy of the product. However, it still wasn't done yet. It took her almost two years to finish creating that course! And when I did finally get a copy of it, I could see half a dozen ways that she had made her project much harder and more complicated than it needed to be. Worst of all, some of the information from the experts in the course was already out of date.

Both books and big, complicated infoproducts each have their place. Just don't start with one. Start with an easy project that you can start and finish in a week or less. Then set it up to start earning from it. Then you're ready to tackle a bigger project.

The second most common deadly mistake of first-time information marketers is creating a product focused on what people should want to know, what's good for them to know, not what they actually want to know.

For example, a psychotherapist I know believes that unacknowledged shame is the root cause of many people's unhappiness. She may be correct about this. However, unless people are very knowledgeable about psychology or have been in therapy for a while, they won't identify shame as their core issue. And in that case, they're not going to buy a report or course about getting over their shame.

Similarly, maybe you are a copywriter and have a terrific workbook on how to translate features into benefits. However, the average business owner is not aware of features and benefits, so this is not going to be a big seller to the business community.
